LGBT Tech was featured in Bloomberg Law’s December 2023 article, “Youth Social Media Bills to Meet Tech, LGBTQ Opposition in 2024” (via Bloomberg Law) discussing resistance to emerging state-level youth social media restrictions.
These bills, including parental-consent mandates and age-verification requirements, have drawn sharp criticism from both tech industry leaders and LGBTQ advocates. LGBT Tech joined forces with organizations such as the Chamber of Progress to argue that these measures amount to digital censorship, potentially cutting off LGBTQ+ youth from crucial support networks and affirming online spaces.
As highlighted by Bloomberg Law, LGBT Tech contributed to a coalition letter opposing Florida’s HB 3. The law tightened restrictions on minors’ social media use, but critics—including LGBT Tech, warned it would “leave LGBTQ+ teens … unable to connect with others from their community.”
