LGBT Tech Files Comments with FCC on Proposed Changes to Lifeline Program

Today, LGBT Tech filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission opposing proposed changes to the Lifeline program that would make it harder for eligible low-income people to access affordable communications services.

In our filing, we urge the FCC to reject reforms that would narrow eligibility and create new barriers for people who already face disproportionate obstacles to staying connected. For LGBTQ+ people, especially those experiencing poverty, housing instability, documentation mismatch, or unsafe living situations, affordable connectivity is a must. It is a critical tool for safety, support, economic participation, and access to essential resources.

Our comments make clear that efforts to improve program integrity must be targeted and evidence-based. They should not come at the expense of eligible households that rely on Lifeline to remain connected in an increasingly digital world.
