LGBT Tech recently featured in coverage surrounding Florida’s controversial youth social media law (Florida HB 3), which bans residents under 14 from using social media and requires parental consent for 14- and 15-year-olds to participate online. This legislation has drawn sharp criticism from digital rights and LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations alike—including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), The Trevor Project, Chamber of Progress, and notably, LGBT Tech.
The law, now signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, has been legally challenged on grounds that it infringes First Amendment rights and may disproportionately harm vulnerable communities. LGBT Tech is a vocal opponent, emphasizing how these sweeping mandates could unwittingly isolate LGBTQ+ youth who depend on online platforms for identity exploration, support, and community.
By joining the coalition opposing HB 3, LGBT Tech highlights the need for inclusive digital policies that safeguard youth without cutting off essential access to affirming online spaces.
