About the event

LGBT Tech and the Justice Education Project invite you to join Data Privacy in an Age of Inference, a webinar exploring how modern algorithms can infer deeply sensitive characteristics from seemingly unrelated behavioral data.

Traditional privacy education often teaches people to protect the information they choose to disclose. But today’s data systems can predict or infer political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy status, mental health conditions, religious affiliation, and other intimate characteristics, even when individuals intentionally keep those aspects of themselves private.

This conversation will examine what inference-based data practices mean for privacy, civil rights, digital safety, and marginalized communities, and how privacy education and policy must evolve in response.

The webinar will begin with a presentation by the Justice Education Project, followed by an expert panel moderated by LGBT Tech.

Panel speakers include:

  • Paige Collings, Senior Speech and Privacy Activist, EFF
