On July 9, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will hold a workshop on “The Dangers of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ for Minors.” This event will platform disinformation advocates who seek to intentionally mislead the public about the safety and efficacy of the longstanding standard of medical care for transgender youth.

The FTC's mandate is to address unfair or deceptive practices in interstate commerce, not to second-guess established medical standards widely accepted by experts in the field or to overrule clinical and family decision-making. The partisan nature of the July 9 event misuses the FTC’s authority by interfering in the doctor-patient relationship and violates the FTC’s charge to inform and protect consumers, including and especially transgender youth and their families.
