PowerOn Application FAQs

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?

To be eligible for this grant, organizations must:

  • be a 501(c)(3) organization

  • be based in the United States or U.S. territories

  • primarily serve members of the LGBTQ+ community within the United States and U.S. territories

WHAT DEVICES ARE PROVIDED THROUGH THIS GRANT?

PowerOn’s main goal is to provide technology to help LGBTQ+ individuals access supportive resources, complete educational programs, find jobs or housing, and otherwise empower themselves to achieve success. We realize that success looks different for everyone, so we are happy to work with centers to determine what technology is of the most use to them and their clients. Typical items we provide are:

  • Cell phones (with chargers)

  • Laptop and desktop computers (equipped with OS and Wi-Fi capability)

  • Tablets

  • Printers

  • USB drives

  • Portable battery chargers

In order to maximize the program’s impact for as many individuals as possible we are unable to guarantee specific items, brands, or models. We cannot provide items that are not directly related to our goal of providing LGBTQ+ with hardware for accessing essential resources, or disposable items required for the continued use of these items. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Software, including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Gaming systems/recreational tech

  • Photography/videography equipment (unless for a digital art program that has been approved by PowerOn)

  • Audio or music equipment (beyond what comes standard with the devices listed above)

  • Televisions

  • DVD/Blu-Ray players

  • Batteries

  • Printer ink/toner and paper

  • Device chargers and cords (beyond those provided with equipment initially)

  • Tech accessories (cases, multi-port charging stations, screen protectors, etc.)

  • Cell phone plans

  • Any technology that will not benefit PowerOn clients directly (i.e. most technology for sole staff use or for use by programs other than those which the Center mentioned in its initial application)

While we occasionally make exceptions to what we provide, we want all centers to have realistic expectations of what they can hope to receive from their partnership with PowerOn. We are able to evaluate special requests on an individual basis but may require additional documentation to demonstrate need for this equipment, and reserve the right to deny technology requests.
